The Vision of the Volunteer Group
To be a consolidated group, with an organized structure that allows and facilitates the effective participation of its members through interaction with the patients and family members of the Foundation.

Mission of the Volunteer Group
To establish, based on charitable principles, psychological support and a human presence, by means of company, human contact, and effective participation, primarily for the patients and secondly for their family members, in support of a better quality of life, according to the Philosophy of Palliative Care

Recruitment
People interested in involving themselves with the Foundation for Unity of Palliative Care of the National Children’s Hospital as a volunteer should provide the following documents:

  • Resumé (Curriculum Vitae)
  • A copy of your identification card
  • Two passport-size photos
  • A personal which specifies why you want to participate
  • Two recent letters of recommendation

These documents can be received throughout the year.

Selection
There are two selection processes each year. The process consists of various evaluative stages, whose primary objective is to see if the candidate’s characteristics correspond to those established in the Volunteer Outline. Some of the activities carried out by the Volunteer Group will be the following:

  • To supply the patients and their families a human presence and psychological support
  • To offer company and human contact to the patients and their families
  • To facilitate rest and comfort for the family members
  • To empathetically listen to the many different individual experiences of the patients as well as their family members
  • To organize activities of rest and recreation for the patients and their families
  • To train the parents in different relational activities involving the care and support of their children, for example relaxation techniques, early stimulation, among others
  • To organize special activities (Birthday parties, celebrations, etc.) for the patients and/or their family members
  • To support the institution in the different organized activities

Beginning and Training

  Once accepted, a member of the Volunteer Group begins the training processe, which strives to offer the volunteer the knowledge, tools, and aptitude required to help him/her do the job well.
