The Pediatric Palliative Cares Hospice and Diurnal Center building for the attention and hospitalization of children and adolescents with limited life conditions is a necessity and an alternative for this part of the population that have terminal diseases with no reasonable healing possibilities and huge possibilities of passing away.
Currently, the country is only giving attention to 24, 83% of the Pediatric Palliative Care services demands, what shows the urgent need of being able to reach and give attention to the 75, 17% left of the pediatric palliative population.
Hence, being Costa Rica the only Central American country that offers a Pediatric Palliative Care Program, the rest of the region needs directly or indirectly our experience and services in order to fulfill their social security system attention needs.
That is why, among our objectives, the creation of a training program for future Costa Rican and Latin American professionals in the Pediatric Palliative Cares field, is included. The first step has been given through the Postgraduate Course, developed by the University of Costa Rica and the Pro Palliative Care Unit Foundation, however, there is still a long road ahead, and that is precisely why, we need your collaboration.
