Our Achievements



The Pro Palliative Care Unit Foundation was established in 1992 as an answer to the lack of budget and clear policies of the Costa Rican social security system towards palliative care. It’s main goal has been to support the Palliative Care and Pain Control Clinic at the Children's National Hospital, which was created to take care o children who, by the characteristics of their disease, healing medicine does not offer any real possibility of getting better; but instead need access to palliative medicines and care that will grant them professional attention and pain control for a better quality of life in their remaining months of life.

With donations the Foundation created a grief-therapy group to support parents and family members that lost a son or daughter, has been able to cover the purchase of medicines, medical equipment and food for patients with limited economical resources and finally opened the “Fulfill a Dream” program, all offered at no cost to the patients and families.
